The last few summers we participate in what has been referred to as "Camp Cammie". This title was given to me last summer by a neighborhood parent. His son would come over to play with my kids in the morning, if we were having "school time" he had the choice of joining us or he could come back later. He didn't take me up on the offer of joining us at first. After a few days, he decided to give it a try. He soon became a regular during our "school time" and shared what he learned with his dad at night. Soon, his dad would say, "How was Camp Cammie today?"
Most people around here know that we do "summer school" at our house. I put together some educational material and throw in some fun ideas. We try to have "school" almost every day during the week. Last year we began theme weeks, we had fun deciding which themes and different ways to reinforce what they have learned and introduce some new material. Although the themes can be pretty basic, it is what we do with those topics each week that makes it fun. This summer, I have decided to share our themes to encourage others to do something similar.
Our themes this summer include: Book Club, Creative Writing, Multi-Math, Multi-Media, Presidents (1-10), Experiment and Record with Science, The American Revolution, USA States, "Bored Games", Spelling Bee and Presenting a Presentation.
Each week I will post about the previous week's theme and will include some of the fun ideas we used to incorporate learning. If you are interested, be sure you have subscribed to MomsMaterial's email subscription and look for entries labeled "Camp Cammie".
