Although this has not happened to me, I have had several friends admit that during the first few months, the lack of sleep contributed to getting out of the car, locking it, taking a few steps away before realizing something isn't right. At that moment it was easier for them to understand how someone could unintentionally leave their baby in the car. You might be a brand new parent, not used to carting the baby around yet and in a daze from a lack of sleep. I wouldn't want anyone to experience this and am thankful for this product. If I were going to have any more, this would be at the top of my list on items wanted. I would also consider this for a baby shower gift.
An educated guesstimate would be that there are around 20,000,000 American children under the age of 5 who sit in some form of child restraint seat. Out of those, Baby Alert International reports, 35 per year die of hot car deaths. Although 35 out of 20,000,000 doesn't even complete the "e" in epidemic, Baby Alert International has invented the ChildMinder System so that your child will not become one of those, ahem, 35.
ChildMinder is a weight sensitive pad that you slip under the cover of your child's car seat. If your car engine turns off and you walk more than 15 feet from your car, an alarm will sound from a remote activated fob you attach to your keychain. With the ChildMinder system, not even the most absent minded professor could forget his child in the car. He would hear the alarm and the day would be saved. Unless you think you might actually remember something as important as your child, and you don't want to play the .000175% odds that you'll forget, you will want to pick one of these up. They are on sale from Baby Alert International for $59.95. www.BabyAlert.info
