I like to assess my life every once in a while. Do a spring cleaning of a bad habit, a lazy chore, or a self damaging thought process. Things have been tough this year so I am behind on my self improvements.
The other day I was talking to a friend and I found myself saying, “I used to be…” quite often. I used to have time for me. I used to have...

A huge Apple fan, finally gets a MacBook!
I have been a fan of Apple for quite some time, but my hubby (IT guy) always seems to put it off. Now that I am thinking about it, I understand his hesitation. If one family member gets a Mac, then the others will soon be asking for one. My daughter has already tried convincing us that she HAS to have one, because that is what they use at school. In addition, she had one assignment that they were unable to sync and it had to be done on a Mac. So, my sweet daughter gave me a choice.
I could get up earlier (she knows I am not a fan of that) and she could use one at the school OR I could just go ahead and buy a MacBook. Based on the beginning of this post,...

Earlier this week, a package came in addressed to my hubby. He mentioned it contained my Valentine’s Day present. I was impressed since he typically goes out in the afternoon and comes back with a card, flowers and chocolate. Although, I have to admit, on several occasions he has surprised me. One year, he gave me some large hoop diamond earrings that had been on my wish list for over a year. I know that when he orders a gift, it has been...

I don’t know why, but I am still surprised when I find adults behaving as though they are still in high school.
When I read Karen Jones (Jones to the Grindstone) post that addresses adult cyberbullying, I asked her permission to share it with my readers. As an Internet Safety Advocate and mother of two tweens, I hear cyberbullying...

For many children, back to school means back to bullying. We asked Ryron and Rener Gracie, creators of Gracie Bullyproof™– a confidence development program for kids, for some advice on how to help kids stay safe from this pervasive malady.
Bullying is the leading cause of depression and low self-esteem for children. The National Education Association reports 160,000 children miss school every day for fear of bullying. Indeed, every child is a potential target...

School has started and if you have a daughter, chances are, she will have to deal with friend drama. She may be the one creating it, on the receiving end or in the middle of it.
Is your daughter prepared to deal with the drama that comes with friendship? Does she have a plan or strategy that will help her deal with friendship issues? Will she have the confidence to express herself in a healthy way? If not, she will have a difficult time staying out of the drama and maintaining friendships.
Let’s...

As a Lifetime Mom Affiliate, I have been given some incredible opportunities. Last Friday was one of those, Lifetime Moms set up a phone interview for a few people with Project Runway’s exiting designer from Episode 4. We had an opportunity to find out more about Kristin, her experience and her future.
Kristin Haskins Simms began Project Runway Season 8 under the radar and in Episode 3, she stole the show. Her choice of party supplies in “It’s a Party”...

Project Runway’s first hat inspired challenge introduces us to famed hat designer Philip Treacy. This British milliner has adorned the heads of celebrities including Sarah Jessica Parker and Lady Gaga.
He informs the designers this challenge is all about volume, proportion and understanding the silhouette of the person wearing it. One more thing, he will be the guest judge.
This just may be one of the more difficult challenges the designers will face this season.
Challenge: Create a look inspired by the outrageous hats designed...

A few days ago, I made my 5 minute debut on our local morning show, Great Day Houston. The show was about social media and I was there to talk about practicing internet safety with your kids. Many of you know that I am also an Internet Safety Advocate and educate families on staying safe online at Cyber Safe Family.
It was quite an experience.
I am used to speaking...

I highly recommend visiting MommaFindings.com for reviews and giveaways. A couple of weeks ago, Sara at MommaFindings, was working with Nestle on a Summer Block Party.
She partnered with Nestle for a Summer Block Party to help with some budget savvy, fun summer ideas. The idea was to post one fun family-friendly activity, along with a daily giveaway of a Nestle Prize Pack.
Each day her readers shared information and they were entered into a drawing. On Monday, she talked about the dance parties...

This week I did a guest post on Verizon’s At Home Blog, “10 Tips to Make Sure You Have a Cyber Safe Family”.
Most of you know that I am a big fan of Verizon Wireless and have been one of their loyal customers for over 10 years. I have found their customer service excellent. I have had to deal with customer service on several issues and have always found them to go above and beyond the normal service.
A few months ago, I was about to give an Online Safety & Reputation Management Presentation to a group of 7th grade girls. About 30 minutes before the presentation, I...

A few weeks ago, I introduced a new series called “Daddy Time” that adds a different perspective on parenting from some of my favorite “Daddy Bloggers”. Prior to the name “Daddy Time” that plan was to call the series “A Dad’s Point of View”. Before I sent out the first post of the series, I found out this title was already...

My son, “M”, loves to invite his neighborhood friends over to participate in different tournaments. A couple of years ago we hosted several Pokémon tournaments over the summer. The neighborhood kids always enjoy the tournaments and want to know when we are having our next one.
At the beginning of summer, our kids make a list of rewards and Hubby and I make a list of things they can do to earn them. Like most tween girls, “T” (my daughter) wants to have several girls spend the night and watch movies. On the other...

Our family just got back from our first visit to SeaWorld San Antonio. You would think that as much as we love theme parks and roller coasters, that we would have already visited. Plus, SeaWorld is only 3 hours away, which makes it an easy weekend trip. Why, oh, why did we wait this long?
One thing I can tell you… now we are fans and will be going back soon.
Wondering why we finally decided to go?
Last month I was asked if I would be interested in attending the #Wildside Bloggers...

This week I decided MomsMaterial needed something different and new. Therefore, I decided to add a new series, called Daddy Time.
During my social media networking I have found some great articles written by Dads. Some bring a different perspective to the table and others are laugh out loud funny. At the moment, I am not sure how often we will feature Daddy Time, but I hope to make it a regular part of...
