How to Wrap a House and Revenge Wrapping

Mention wrapping a house to a group and you are sure to get different reactions. If you mention it at our house, it is usually followed by a few of our favorite stories.

When I was growing up, slumber parties typically involved wrapping a house. We did it for fun and many times we wrapped a house because someone in our group had a crush on the boy that lived there. As a matter of fact, the highlight of my 13th birthday party was wrapping the house of my “crush”.

Now that I am a parent of a middle school girl, her dad and I are often asked about wrapping a house. Most of the time, one of us can be talked into it.

Of course, that means our house is a target and we get wrapped often.

Most of the time, we catch the kids while they are wrapping our house. If we have a house full of girls, they run out after the boys. Unfortunately, these days, the boys don’t get scared off by the girls anymore. That’s when hubby comes out and gives them a warning before he turns the water hose on them!

Almost every time we have caught a group of boys wrapping our house, we retaliate. We sneak over to there house and do what we call “revenge wrapping”.

The last time our house was wrapped, my son and I saw them as we were about to pull into the driveway. They were almost done, so we drove around to let them finish. A few minutes later, I received a text (from the dad) that said, “gotcha” and included a photo of our wrapped house. Very clever!

My reply, “Best wrapping job we’ve had… better sleep with one eye open!”

As we began plotting our revenge, we decided we had to act soon. We knew they would be on the lookout, so we waited. Another text came in, “if you are coming, do it soon, we are about to go to sleep.” So we waited some more, then headed to the store to buy ALL of their toilet paper. Then hubby and the kids snuck over to their house and did the best revenge wrap.

The next day, they woke up to this…

(I am having trouble with my pictures, if it is not showing up… I am working on it.)

and I woke up to this text…

“You win, that is the best wrapping job… ever!”

I picked up pieces of toilet paper for over a month. Every day, just a little more would fall from the tops of the trees! And about six weeks later, we had a strong wind and I found this…

I must admit, today’s technology added a lot more fun to wrapping a house!

Cammie Moise

Want to get posts like these delivered straight to your email, so you don’t miss the latest articles? How they continued to hang out with me sometimes, I don’t know!

Now I have a lot of people who love me and need me and want me all the time. I almost never have time to myself and I almost never go anywhere without one of them with me.

But, despite my complaining and constant wish that I could just get away, I love it. I don’t cry myself to sleep at night because something wonderful happened that day and I had no one to tell. And every day is filled with love and affection… unending most days!

So, I wonder. Why the longing comparisons to the past? If I was so incredibly happy ‘back then’, why did I change it?

If salon visits and first dates and no children was my ultimate joy, why did I so willingly throw it all away?

There must be something pretty amazing here for me to have chosen this path.

Maybe it is time for a mind cleaning. And adjustment in my wordings to more accurately explain the situation.

Instead of I “used to”, how about I “am glad”?

I am glad got to have time to live my life before settling down. I am glad that I got to know what it was like to work for and have a career before I immersed myself in diapers and bottles.

I am glad I had sad and lonely nights so that when things get tough with my husband I can remember that the alternative is not something I want to go back to.

I am glad I do not have more time for myself. Because that means that I am valuable enough to those in my life that I need to be there for them.

And one day, down the road, I will be glad that I had this time to be with them and love them and have them all the time. This time is so short, and I will miss it.

So though I may glorify what used to be, I am glad I am not there anymore. Because where I am now is where I really want to be.

- Lori Pace, A Day In Motherhood

Original Article “Used To”

About Lori

My name is Lori Pace and I am a 38 year old happily married wife and thrilled, but often struggling, mother of three young daughters.

I live in Houston, TX and love that darned Texas heat!

In my previous life, known as before children, I was a stockbroker climbing my way to the middle. I became a married mother at 33 and, in less than 3 years, added two more daughters to my brood.

Now, as a stay at home mom, I feel I needed a place to complain, express frustration, share the joys and laughter of my mothering these children.

Thus was born my blog, A Day in Motherhood.

As a blogger, I fell in love with entering giveaways and reading reviews on blogs before I purchased one. Therefore, I decided to focus part of my blog on doing the same for my readers! I never review, giveaway or promote a product that I myself have not or would not use!

I want to find the best deals and share them with you, tell you about the latest and greatest entertainment information for kids, and write to you often about what it is like to raise these kids!

I am deeply honored that you stopped by to read a post, a review, or enter a giveaway! And thrilled that you have chosen to follow me as I laugh, cry and scream my way through the Mothering of 3 small children!

Cammie Moise

One more reason I love Chevy… I met Lori! She is one of the bloggers working on the #chevygirls social media campaign. I have had so much fun getting to know her. I don’t know how she feels about me, but I love hanging with her. As you can tell by this post, she shares her heart, she is “real” and makes you feel as if you have been friends forever!

I would love for you to stop by her blog - A Day in Motherhood, like her Facebook page and follow her on Twitter - @lomargie.

Recommended Posts

Tired of Hearing, "Mom, I'm Bored!"

10 Ideas to Keep Your Kids Safe and Occupied During the Summer Break

Mom... That’s OK, you can always head to the nearest Texas Dealership. Just make sure you bring your video camera and let them know what you’re doing.

If Your Video Is Chosen, you win $500 bucks AND an iPad2!

Want to know my favorite Chevy?

Hard to say, since I have wanted a Suburban for over 10 years! I love a big SUV to cart around my kids, their friends plus sports gear. Plus, all that room for the trips to a family ranch. So peaceful when each child gets their own row.

As a Chevy Mom, I drove the Malibu for a month and found myself quite surprised. I got spoiled with Remote Start, OnStar, Bluetooth calling, great gas mileage, and all those drink holders. I did not want to give it back!

Then came the Volt Unplugged Tour and during the Houston stop, I hosted a block party. Family, friends and neighbors stopped by to test drive the Volt, before it even came out. Very tempting when you consider it’s an electric car.

But lately, I find myself checking out the Traverse and Equinox. Oh, and before I know it, the kids will be grown and I can race around in a small car. Maybe a Chevy Corvette Convertible…

Decisions, decisions! I guess you will have to wait and see.

Prize Details

3g Apple iPad2 and a $500 American Express gift card.
Photo Booth on the Mac Helps You Get Creative and Have Fun With Pictures

A huge Apple fan, finally gets a MacBook!

I have been a fan of Apple for quite some time, but my hubby (IT guy) always seems to put it off. Now that I am thinking about it, I understand his hesitation. If one family member gets a Mac, then the others will soon be asking for one. My daughter has already tried convincing us that she HAS to have one, because that is what they use at school. In addition, she had one assignment that they were unable to sync and it had to be done on a Mac. So, my sweet daughter gave me a choice.

I could get up earlier (she knows I am not a fan of that) and she could use one at the school OR I could just go ahead and buy a MacBook. Based on the beginning of this post, you are probably thinking that sleep was too important and I shelled out the money to get 20 more minutes of sleep. Although I did contemplate the idea of purchasing a MacBook, I choose to take her to school early.

I had been saving up to buy one (MacBook) for myself and passing down my laptop to the kids. In addition, I knew that if I chose to get one at that time, she would always think of it as “her” computer.

The day finally arrived when I headed to my favorite Apple store, and instead of playing on their computers, I actually bought my own.

Now, if I could only wave my magic wand and have everything set up instantly.

I am going through some tutorials and learning how to use some of the new programs. I have to admit, I have enjoyed playing around with Photo Booth, especially when I can say “I’m working.” Really, I am. Not only am I learning different formats for creating content, but I also consider this as research for CyberSafeFamily. Educating families on the risks associated with the internet and digital devices requires that I learn how to use some of the latest technology.

While I was learning how to use Photo Booth, I was reminded of my friend, Jenny at Jenny on the Spot. One thing I love about Jenny is her personality. She is very creative and has a great sense of humor. Her videos seemed to set her apart as her personality was incorporated into her videos. They are funny and entertaining. I often find myself laughing out loud as I watch her videos. She even began sharing her tips on how to have fun with photos and videos. And as you will see in her video, she knows how to have fun!

Check out Jenny on the Spot’s video, “Photo Booth Fun”.

As I was testing out Photo Booth and using the Thermal setting, I remembered Jenny’s video. And although it was funny when she realized the wall was actually “hotter” than she is, it soon became very disturbing.

Because that is when I realized that Jenny is “hotter” than I am...

and the wall is “hotter” than she is. So, where does that leave me?

FYI – If you notice that her video is not quite the same size as mine, it was not on purpose. Remember, I am still learning!

Please stop by Jenny on the Spot where you will find more fun, laughter and some great videos.

Earlier this week, a package came in addressed to my hubby. He mentioned it contained my Valentine’s Day present. I was impressed since he typically goes out in the afternoon and comes back with a card, flowers and chocolate. Although, I have to admit, on several occasions he has surprised me. One year, he gave me some large hoop diamond earrings that had been on my wish list for over a year. I know that when he orders a gift, it has been thoughtfully considered.

The night before Valentine’s Day, he couldn’t wait to give the kids the presents he picked out for them. My son received an XBox360 related gift and my daughter received some fleece footed heart pajamas. Imagine my surprise when he handed me a box with a matching pair of pj’s… for me! This type of gift, especially for Valentine’s Day was a big surprise. I really did not know what to think. Seriously, look at these…

Not your typical Valentine’s Day gift for your wife. He quickly explained that he thought some matching mother/daughter pj’s would be cute. He knows that I am always freezing in the winter and he thought these would help keep me warm.

Apparently, they don’t make (or didn’t have) petite sizes. Being that I describe myself as “almost 5’ 1”, they were not the least bit flattering. As the night went on, I began to love those pj’s as I thought about the fact he sacrificed his idea for a romantic gift and gave me something he thought would make me happy… and it does.

Happy Valentine’s Day to you!

Cammie Moise

Other posts you may find interesting…

Would you Wear This Snuggy Inspired Clothing?

Interview With Project Runway’s Designer Kristin Haskins Simms

As a Lifetime Mom Affiliate, I have been given some incredible opportunities. Last Friday was one of those, Lifetime Moms set up a phone interview for a few people with Project Runway’s exiting designer from Episode 4. We had an opportunity to find out more about Kristin, her experience and her future.

Kristin Haskins Simms began Project Runway Season 8 under the radar and in Episode 3, she stole the show. Her choice of party supplies in “It’s a Party” gave us the “best laugh of the season” per Tim Gunn. Although I was sad to see her eliminated, I was thrilled about interviewing her.

Kristin is from Philadelphia and her background is in graphic design. She calls herself an “accidental designer” stating that she “sort of fell into it.” She auditioned for Project Runway on a dare and a whim, not expecting to hear back from them.

She was thrilled to have this opportunity and the highlight of this adventure for her, was meeting Tim Gunn. She stated, “I might not have had the best clothes on the show, but at least I had that moment with him (Tim Gunn).”

Of course, the moment she is referring to, is the now infamous “wooly balls” scene. During the interview, she mentioned that we have to watch the extended version. Kristin said, “I have never seen Tim Gunn laugh like that, everyone in the workroom was laughing.”

Interview with Kristin Haskins Simms

What type of woman do you design for?

“I design for the versatile woman with a busy life. My designs need to take you from work to walking the dog or weeding in your garden. All my pieces have a strange twist in them and some versatility.”

Do you feel your design approach put you at a disadvantage?

"It's hard to tell, really. It's all subjective. Michael Kors is a very different designer than I am. I respect his way of looking at things, but mine is different. My inspirations are Japanese and deconstructed looks, so I just think it doesn't really work that much in Project Runway. I can do it well in my own space, but when you're under cameras in a hot work room, I just wasn't able to do my best. If anything, I was more disappointed in myself, that I wasn't able to show my best work on the show, but I do in real life, which is what matters."

What was your experience on the show like as a whole?

"I definitely felt like a deer in the headlights at times, only because I don't have much experience at all. I'm self-taught. I'm the accidental designer, this wasn't my chosen profession. I just fell into it because I made a great collection for fall 2009 and my friends and family told me that I had to apply for the show. I didn't expect to get on!"

Did you have any doubts about your design?

"I definitely had doubts. I know it wasn't well-executed. My model is also a lot smaller than the form, and again for me not having as much experience technically [was hard]... I'm a draper and I work with flat patterns. I did try to make it work and I had a strong concept, contrary to what the judges said. But at least Philip Treacy understood where I was coming from, and so did Tim Gunn, so that was good."

I wasn’t expecting you to be the one to go home on this challenge. Were you surprised when you were eliminated?

"Yeah, that was actually a little surprising to me. I mean, it was April's second time in the bottom and she's a student and has had more experience than me! And it was my first time in the bottom and I got eliminated. But to be honest, I was happy to see her move on. She's a young designer and I think she does have great ideas and I think she's going to do well. At that point, I was really ready to go! I said, 'Can I go home now, mommy?' (Laughs) I knew it was my time. I knew I was in over my head, but I'm okay, I was able to stick around for four episodes and now I'm moving on in my real life!"

Was it hard to be eliminated in a challenge where everyone seemed to agree that Michael C did not deserve to win?
"Yeah, but I was proud of Michael for winning, personally. I was surprised that he won but to be honest, I didn't know what the winning look was. I didn't feel that anyone really stepped up to this challenge as we could have. We were all intimidated to a degree, and even Tim Gunn noticed that. Philip Treacy is a great designer, so I was intimidated for sure!"

Tim Gunn made a comment about the judges being "on crack" this season. Do you think the judges were unfair?

"I'm so glad you brought that up! He said that when I was eliminated and I was very disappointed that they edited it out. He said on his video blog that the producers were unhappy with him saying that, so I knew they wouldn't play it. But when he came in after my elimination to the designers lounge, he said, 'I'm very happy I'm not a judge, because I'd have to be smoking a crack pipe', and all our mouths just dropped! So he did say that. You could tell that there was a little bit of tension in the ranks and I think that's why he has these [videos] and new items he has where he speaks to the exiting designers. That was his idea. I think even in past seasons there's always been some disagreement, but I did feel there was more disagreement this season."

What are you working on now?

"I am in the process of making a spring collection and doing a couple of shows, one in Philly and another one that's still in the works that I can't really talk about. A couple of showrooms have expressed interest in my line, so a lot of good things are happening. It's kind of overwhelming, but that's why I'm so grateful for my time on the show."

I saw the RainSCARF in your casting session video, do you think this will be a big hit as more people learn about it?

“Yes, since the casting video began airing, I have had lots of requests and orders for this and am working on getting them manufactured. I was doing the RainSCARF before Project Runway, but now I have more of a demand because more people are seeing it.”

Who are you rooting for?

“I’m definitely rooting for Andy. I think he really embodies both innovation and execution. He’s a really nice guy, I’m rooting for him.”

I am looking forward to seeing Kristin’s success as a designer.

Kristin leaves as one of my favorite designers this season. Although it isn’t so much about her design, as it is her ability to make me laugh. She reminds me to enjoy those moments in life that leave you laughing so hard, you cry!

Kristin and Tim Gunn’s Exit Interview

Tim Gunn’s exit interview with Kristin brings us another great “Project Runway” moment that leaves us giggling once again (see video below, I promise you will be glad you did).

It is clear Tim is going to need help getting through this season, and Kristin was providing him with comic relief. She may be going, but she is leaving something behind. She tells Tim she has a gift for him…

Yes, she presents him with an animal wooly ball that can be used as a bookmark.

He tells her he is going to miss her and that she gave them the “best laugh of the season.”

And once again he gives us another unforgettable line, “I am cherishing this, when things get really grim, I am going to pull out the… animal wooly ball.”

Kristin presents Tim with a gift

Project Runway airs Thursdays at 9/8C on Lifetime.

Photos and videos courtesy of Lifetime Television

Check out my thoughts on Episode 4 Project Runway's "Hats off to You" Episode Leaves Kristin Haskins Simms and Tim Gunn Confused, But Still Laughing

 Cammie Moise

Want to get posts like these delivered straight to your email, so you don’t miss the latest articles? Then sign up for MomsMaterial’s free email subscription and stay up to date on the latest parenting articles, tips and tricks.

Interested in keeping your family safe online or managing your online reputation?
Project Runway “Hat’s Off to You” Episode Leaves Designer Kristin Haskins Simms and Tim Gunn Confused, But Still Laughing

Project Runway’s first hat inspired challenge introduces us to famed hat designer Philip Treacy. This British milliner has adorned the heads of celebrities including Sarah Jessica Parker and Lady Gaga.

He informs the designers this challenge is all about volume, proportion and understanding the silhouette of the person wearing it. One more thing, he will be the guest judge.

This just may be one of the more difficult challenges the designers will face this season.

Challenge: Create a look inspired by the outrageous hats designed by Philip Treacy

Can the designers take their own interpretation of this hat and express it into a total look? Will they be able to communicate it to the judges? In particular, the one that designed the hat and has his own perception of what his creation conveys?

I am not sure these questions were answered in this episode. In fact, I think most people are still trying to figure out what the judges were thinking.

One question that has caused some debate, “Do you choose the hat or the model?” Several reviews have criticized the designers for choosing the same model they have been working with, regardless of the hat. I actually think it was a brilliant move.

Unless a particular hat spoke to you, it allows the designer to work with the measurements and model he is familiar with. All the hats are outrageous and being familiar with your model gives the designer a bit more confidence. On this challenge, that bit of confidence gives them one less thing to worry about.

Therefore, a smart move.

It was difficult to figure out exactly what the judges were looking for when it came to the winning (and losing) design. When Heidi called out the final 6 designers (the best and the worst), it was actually difficult to decide which was which. Apparently, I was not the only one that felt that way.

In addition, when you add the opinion of guest judge, Philip Treacy, does it come down to his own interpretation?

I envision the judges deliberating for a long time. I wonder whose negotiation skills were put to the test or if any blackmail was used to sway votes in their direction. Was it two on two and someone finally gave in because they were tired or hungry? Did it come down to the guest judge, after all he created the hats? Oh, to be a fly on the wall, at judgment time.

Don’t you just wonder what Heidi is thinking?

Let’s take a look at four of the final six designs that were left on the runway. The top designs included Michael Drummond and Michael Costello.

The winning design went to Michael C!

I have to disagree with the judges on that call.

I am no designer, but when I look at Michael D’s dress, it is clear the hat and dress were meant to go together. Didn’t hat designer Philip Treacy say “this challenge is all about volume, proportion and understanding the silhouette of the person wearing it.” Hello!?! Do you not see that when you look at Michael D’s dress? Because I do.

When I look at Michael C’s dress, it looked as though his model purchased the hat and then went shopping to find something to compliment it. Tim Gunn explained it best in Kristin’s exiting video, “Michael C has a beautiful dress. It could be on that runway in any context. Michael D’s dress could only have happened because of the hat. And for me, that made it the clear winner.”

The bottom two designs included April and Kristin

The more I look at the bottom two, I am convinced they have one thing in common and it starts with a “V” and was mentioned several times on the show by Kristin. If you are having a hard time figuring out what I am referring too, look closely at April’s shorts design. And as many of you know, an orchid is often compared to that part of the anatomy.

If April had chosen to make those “triple layered panties” (as referred to by Michael Kors) into short shorts or even a skirt, it might have worked. Unfortunately, I can’t get past my first reaction.

I felt like Kristin lost focus and her dress did not fit her model well. When I look at the picture, I want to grab the top and straighten it up. I certainly understand how she lost focus, the orchid reminded her of her wedding and I am sure she missed her husband. In addition, it would be difficult for me to keep from having a “giggle fit” every time Tim came into the room. I would constantly relive the now famous, one liner, “I prefer the animal wooly balls.”

Unfortunately, they had to eliminate a designer and this week we said goodbye to Kristin.

No doubt the workroom will suffer. They just lost the designer that brought Tim Gunn to tears. Thank goodness he was laughing.

Project Runway airs Thursdays at 9/8C on Lifetime.

Photos and videos courtesy of Lifetime Television

Cammie Moise

Want to get posts like these delivered straight to your email, so you don’t miss the latest articles? Then sign up for MomsMaterial’s free email subscription and stay up to date on the latest parenting articles, tips and tricks. Interested in keeping your family safe online or managing your online reputation?
What I Learned From Being a Guest on Great Day Houston

A few days ago, I made my 5 minute debut on our local morning show, Great Day Houston. The show was about social media and I was there to talk about practicing internet safety with your kids. Many of you know that I am also an Internet Safety Advocate and educate families on staying safe online at Cyber Safe Family.

It was quite an experience.

I am used to speaking in front of groups and although I get a little nervous, I am in control of the situation. If I "blank out" or can't remember what to say, I can look at my slides.

But when you are on a live TV show, it is a different story.

You have an idea of what the host will ask and an idea of points that need to be discussed. But, you don't have your notes, or slides when you get nervous and "blank out" or need a minute to formulate your answer. You have to be quick and make your points.

All I can say is, I am glad me "debut" is over.

I have now been featured as an Internet Safety Advocate on TV. And... when they invite me back, I will be ready. I will not be as nervous and I will make my points quickly.

If you would like to support my return to TV... please head over to the KHOU link of my segment and let them know (in the comment section at KHOU) you would love to hear more on this topic from Cammie Moise.

In the meantime, you can watch my debut here…

Practicing Internet Safety With Your Kids

Deborah Duncan is definitely in her element, she makes it look so effortless and easy. Anyone that has been on her side of the camera can appreciate all that goes into the show.

Great Day Houston is on KHOU and is a live show from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. It can also be seen on their website at Great Day Houston.

If you are looking for a great Internet Safety Program for you or your kids, click on the link below to find out more information on the program my family used.

I-Net Safety Parent or I-Net Safety Student

Want to get posts like these delivered straight to your email so you don’t miss the latest articles? Then sign up for MomsMaterial’s free email subscription and stay up to date on the latest parenting articles, tips and tricks. Interested in keeping your family safe online or managing your online reputation?
How I Got $35 Worth of Groceries FREE!

I highly recommend visiting MommaFindings.com for reviews and giveaways. A couple of weeks ago, Sara at MommaFindings, was working with Nestle on a Summer Block Party.

She partnered with Nestle for a Summer Block Party to help with some budget savvy, fun summer ideas. The idea was to post one fun family-friendly activity, along with a daily giveaway of a Nestle Prize Pack.

Each day her readers shared information and they were entered into a drawing. On Monday, she talked about the dance parties she has with her kids and asked everyone to share their favorite music.

Tuesday she asked for three things you pack when heading out to outdoor concerts or picnics.

Wednesday she asked for a place you know of, where KIDS EAT FREE in your town. Feel free to shout out to the city you live in and what days we can get our free grub on at this restaurant.

Thursday she asked for the last movie you took the family to watch. Can't remember the last time you went to the movies? Well, it's been TOO long sister! Tell me why!

And on Friday she wanted to know if you play special games, go with the classic sprinkler, or go to a Water Park? Also, where do you shop for Summer products (water guns, sidewalk chalk, etc)?

Be sure to stop by the Summer Block Party on MommaFindings and read all the great tips and ideas.

I entered the giveaway everyday and I won on Thursday. I received the coupons this week and my son and I headed to the grocery store. Our plan was to fill up the cart with the items on the manufacturer’s coupons. We were hoping to fill up the cart and not have to pay anything.

Unfortunately, the store didn’t have everything in stock. So, we still get more free items.

Although it took forever to go through check out, we walked out of the store with $35 worth of groceries and didn’t have to pay anything. It was a very productive grocery shopping trip.

We videoed our experience and thought you would enjoy seeing us in action.

Thank you MommaFindings.com and Nestle!

Want to get posts like these delivered straight to your email so you don’t miss the latest articles? Then sign up for MomsMaterial’s free email subscription and stay up to date on the latest parenting articles, tips and tricks. Interested in keeping your family safe online or managing your online reputation?
