Fellow Chevy Mom Squad Member, Melissa, asked me why everyone loves Bucee's so much. I was determined to show her why I love it, besides the obvious - the cleanest bathrooms in Texas!
In order for Melissa to get the full effect, I needed to drive out to the Bucee's in Luling, TX. I know it is one of the biggest, if not, the biggest Bucee's around. It is about a 2 1/2 hour drive, but I didn't mind. I have been looking forward to taking the Chevy Malibu out on a road trip. Plus, my sister invited us to come stay at her "ranch" which is not too far from Bucee's.
I was wondering how the Chevy Malibu would compare to our SUV. Would we have enough room to pack all of our stuff? Would the kids be too close together in the backseat and fight? Would I be comfortable driving for a couple of hours? Would I really see a difference in the gas mileage?
We packed a small cooler, a grocery bag, my laptop, our luggage (my HUGE bag and a small suitcase for each child). Plus, they brought pillows, lovey's, books and digital games. We had plenty of room and my kids even said the seats were so comfortable. I even asked, "Are they more comfortable than our "good" car?" They replied, "Yes!"
I had not thought about the comfort of the seats, which is unusual for me. I am... politically speaking, vertically challenged. If you ask me how tall I am, I typically respond, "I am ALMOST 5 foot 1!" I find it hard to get comfortable in car seats (regular car seats, not baby car seats). Many times I will end up with a backache because the lower support isn't there. That is when I realized these seats are so comfortable. It supports my lower back and the head rest doesn't push my head forward. That is one more feature I LOVE about the Chevy Malibu!
I used the cruise control and found the ability to go up or down in 1 mph increments very convenient. Plus, having it on the steering wheel, is a great safety feature. And the gas mileage... wow, you begin to notice the difference when your SUV gets about 13-15 mpg on the highway and the Malibu gets 33 mpg. I have had the car for 2 weeks and I have only had to fill it up once (and still have half a tank). With today's economy, every penny, dime or dollar saved here and there really helps.
Now, back to Bucee's...

This location was HUGE and had just about everything you could need or want, and more! They had a small grocery store, fresh produce, a deli and meat counter, souvenirs, t-shirts, toys, books, rugs, cutting boards, jellies, jams, and the list goes on. The video below shows a picture of my son with just a small portion of the store in the background. We were told to get pralines, Beaver Nuggets, t-shirts, pepper jelly and beef jerky. We got that and some salt water taffy, and of course, my son, needed a new "lovey". This "lovey" needed to be special, a great companion, fun and full of adventure.
We found him, and his name is "Beavy"!
Watch our drive in the country, our visit to Bucee's, the small town "downtown", the Buffalo and the "ranch".
We had a great time!
