A recent World of Dance Competition, included a group of 7-year-old dancers performing their controversial routine “Single Ladies”. Their performance was posted on YouTube and has over 600,000 views and thousands of comments in 1 week. Why?
Their talent is certainly mentioned, but that is overpowered by their costumes and provocative moves. I have to admit that it is very obvious these girls are talented dancers.
I am curious to know how many of you have the same reaction that I did. My reaction was very mixed, I was blown away by the groups talent, they are fantastic dancers and performers. On the other hand, I was just disturbed when I thought of their age and how I found the choice of costumes and choreography inappropriate for girls and young women.

I can’t help but wonder what these girls will learn when they see the attention they are getting from this video? Will they learn that the more controversy you create with the way you look and dance, the more attention you receive? Are they receiving a message that this is how to get a boys attention? Or are these girls taught that this is a competition, it is creative expression and stays on the dance floor?
I certainly hope the girls don’t read the comments that are posted. As a parent I can only imagine having to explain what some of these comments mean.
As with any controversy you get opinions from one extreme to the other. It was interesting to read the different comments, their opinions and perspective.
I have highlighted a few below. You can find these comments below posted with the video.
What do you think? I would love to hear your opinion and comments.
