 I love it when I am inspired to look at things differently, and be creative. I am often amazed at the talents of others and I wonder how they come up with their ideas. When I start thinking about it, I realize that some of these people have to be what I would call a “daydreamer”. When they let their minds wander they come up with great ideas. As I think about that, I am reminded that “daydreaming” got me in trouble at school. I would get distracted and my mind would wander. When I returned, I often missed an introduction to new material or assignments. I had to learn to recognize when I was doing this and tell myself to stay focused on the teacher. I believe that this began to limit my creativity. I understand that children need to learn to recognize when their mind wanders and to stay focused at certain times. But, I also realize the importance of letting the mind wander to be creative and to use your imagination. When I look around at my kids and their friends I realize that most kids these days are overscheduled or during their free time they fill their minds with television, computers, video games, etc. I think it is important for all of us to have more time to create and use our imagination.
