Our elementary school has an after school event run by parent volunteers called GAP. I am on the leadership team for my daughter's group, with 6 other great moms. This past week, we had our last meeting of the year. It was also scheduled on the same day as Field Day. So, most of the moms were running around helping with Field Day.
I had just started gathering my things together for the meeting after school. I couldn't find my daughter's bible or our theme book. Which is pretty typical! About that time, my friend, Darla called. She said, "Help, I didn't even realize it was Friday until just now. I am teaching the lesson and I can't find my book." Uh oh, was all I could think. I had just been looking for ours for the last 15 minutes with no luck. I told her I was looking for mine and I would bring it up to the school if I could find it. So we said we would pray about the books and the lesson. I looked around, but couldn't find it.
When I got to the meeting, I didn't even have enough time to talk to Darla before the lesson. But the story she told about her day and the lesson she taught those girls was incredible. She started off saying, "Girls, I have a story to tell, how many of you like stories?" They all raised their hands, and if you knew Darla, you would know you were in for a treat! She always has great stories!
Darla continued her lesson and told the girls about her morning. She told the girls how she got the kids off to school and then realized it was Friday. The last GAP meeting! She was teaching the lesson and Friday snuck up on her. She raced around looking for the book to go over the lesson. She couldn't find it. So, she decided to call Mrs. Moise (that's me). And guess what, she couldn't find her book. She prayed about it. She was wondering what she was going to do about the lesson as she heads back up to the school to help during Field Day lunch. She starts praying about her lesson and finding the book. As she walks into the school, guess who she sees? Mrs. Azios, (one of the leaders), she runs over to her and says, "You are the only one that can help me. I forgot it was Friday, I am teaching the lesson and I can't find my book. Please tell me you know where your book is and I can borrow it." Mrs. Azios looks at her with her sweet expression and calm voice and says, "I have my book in my car, we can go get it now." She said God was teaching her a lesson and all the sudden she remembered something. She asked the girls, "What does GAP stand for?" They all yell back, "God Answers Prayer!" It is silent as it sinks in.
Then she tells the girls, I think God wanted to remind me and each of you, that he answers prayer! She asks the girls, "Do you know the 3 ways God answers prayer?" He answers with a Yes, No and Wait. Sometimes he needs you to wait before he answers with a yes or no! She ended the lesson with another great story that she wrote about on her blog. If you want to read about this one, click here.
It was a reminder to me that God is in control and he has a plan. Sometimes I am so busy trying to help him along in what I think his plan is, that I miss out. I can get so worked up trying to get answers when he says, just wait, I have an answer and I have a plan.
Darla is truly an amazing person and she is one of the funniest people I know! This year, I have had the privilege of getting to know her better. She also has one of the most entertaining blogs and almost every story makes me laugh out loud! She is hilarious and a great story teller. Check out her blog, called I Get To, by clicking here. I promise, pretty soon she will have you laughing out loud. I recommend signing up for her email subscription to keep you laughing several times a week.
GAP stands for God Answers Prayers, it is a ministry designed to teach students about God, the Bible and having a praying relationship with Him. Our theme this year was friendship, we talked about how God is our ABFF - Absolute Best Friend Forever. We focused on our relationship and friendship with God and also our relationships and friendship with others.
