Last night, my favorite neighborhood bookstore, Blue Willow Bookshop, hosted Amy Krause Rosenthal's Beckoning of Lovely project. I recently found out about Amy's project and was intrigued by it. I was curious to see what this evening was all about. But I must begin by going back a few days.
When I watched how it all began and where she was going, I was hooked. I remember as a little girl, noticing the ones that were left out, not included or didn't have many friends. I knew that each person had a "gift" - something to share, to make this a better world. Some people's "gifts" are easy to spot, while others have to be unwrapped and pulled out. I knew it was up to me to find the "gift" in each person. These gifts can be shared in many different ways. It could be the way they make you feel when you hold a conversation, they make you feel that you are the only thing that matters. It could be their ability to write, paint, inspire, encourage or help. Her video brought me back to that realization I had as a little girl. Her project incorporates lovely things that people make or do. She reminded me to make the most of every day and to look for the "lovely" things around me. It can be anything from a sunset, a song, a picture, a book or inspiring others to recognize their own beauty.
Her new project incorporates the lovely things she has come into contact with during Beckoning of Lovely. Her Spring Tour includes her newly released children's books and "60 Minutes Of Lovely" an official Beckoning of Lovely gathering.
I was planning on a recap of last night but this morning found out my new friend (she just doesn't realize it yet) Karen, had written about it. She took some great photos (she's a photographer) and wrote about the event (she's a writer) and I felt like it gave a better understanding of the event. Plus, I wanted to introduce my readers to her website, Chookooloonks and tell you to set up your DVR's for The Oprah Winfrey Show on Monday, April 6, 2009. She will be on the show with Heather Armstrong, Daphne Brogdon and Mindy Roberts talking about all things parenting. I am looking forward to this one.
Check out her recap of last night's Beckoning of Lovely event, including beautiful pictures from her blog, Chookooloonks by clicking here.
Amy also introduced her latest Children's books:
"Little Oink"
“Duck!Rabbit!”
“Spoon”
I purchased Duck! Rabbit! and Amy signed it and I read it to my kids last night. They loved it! I will follow up with a review.
We had a great time last night and I am looking forward to seeing the end results of the Beckoning of Lovely.
